Art Impact Project

The following people are interested in participating in an artistic impact project this semester: Lindsay, Cassie, Jeff

Some tips:

Search the uni website for 'art installation' 'art donation' 'art building' and see what you can find out about art on campus. There is likely a committee or office on campus that manages aspects of art on campus. See if you can find out who/where. This information will be helpful whichever type of art project you decide to do.

Send a nice, informative, professional email to Dr. Mauceri (CSBS Dean). Explain to him your interest in contributing a piece of art to the new Sabin building. Explain that it is part of a project for Dr. MacLin's Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination course. Explain the project's goals (not the art project itself, but the overall assignment's goals).  Ask if he is the one you should talk to about this idea, or if there is some other person or group responsible for art in the new building. Let him know that you are at the early planning stages, and are at this point seeking information regarding feasibility of doing/organizing an art project for the new Sabin Building.

Post your ideas and progress as a comment to this entry.

I just found a few student organizations that we could maybe talk to (for either project)...
https://access.uni.edu/cgi-bin/student_orgs/student_orgs.cgi (just a list of all the student organizations)

hi all,
have you sent the email to the dean yet? that was the recommended activity for last week :)

for this week, i'd like to see some postings indicating that you guys have met as a group, what you have discussed, and what your focus for the project is so far. you were to meet last week, and most groups, though not required, have also met this week.

please comment here so that i can see your progress...once you provide some more information, i can post more ideas of how to proceed (see the other impact project posts for an idea of how this process is working).

thanks!

We met last Thursday. We decided that we were going to come up with a scupture rather than focusing on photography.
Jeff was going to email the dean and cassie was going to talk to someone about maybe meeting up with a sculpture/art class to help us with ideas about the sculpture.
We are all still doing some research on how we want the sculpture to look and how we want to go about designing it.
We were thinking that in addition to drawing up the sculpture and coming up with ideas on how we want it presented and how the sculpture would mean, we were wondering if there is anything else we needed to do for this project? Whether it would be something like coming up with a speech if it did get chosen to be built.

We have been talking and I think we might want to do the drawings in the union that you suggested. We are going to find out options for times for when we could get a table in the union or just find a time where we could be around campus to do this.
It might be cool to visit a school to do this instead or in addition to, but we will see how far we can go with this type of option.

We are currently (as in right now) meeting and discussing our project. We are typing up a little handout for the college kids that we have draw pictures for our collage. Today I am handing some of these out in a class of mine and have recently called cedar heights and I am waiting for a reply. Jeff has contacted Blackwell and is waiting for a reply to set up our project in the union. Lindsay has talked to a few friends of her that work at a daycare and is trying to get that worked out. She also may have a book that we could use when we meet with the kids to communicate our project to them with.

Hey Jeff,Cassy, and Lindsay.. I found a class for you if you want to do use it, located in the CAC its a Spanish class. Tuesday April 20 at 10-10:50am and the teacher is willing to let you use the whole class time...
Her name is Cathernie Marie Brix (319)273-2749 email: brixc@uni.edu just tell her you know Alex and its about the class project.
