Avatar Racist?

Near the end of the hit film "Avatar," the villain snarls at the hero, "How does it feel to betray your own race?" Both men are white - although the hero is inhabiting a blue-skinned, 9-foot-tall, long-tailed alien.

Strange as it may seem for a film that pits greedy, immoral humans against noble denizens of a faraway moon, "Avatar" is being criticized by a small but vocal group of people who allege it contains racist themes - the white hero once again saving the primitive natives.

Before Avatar's release many in the gay and lesbian community were concerned that they would not be represented within the film. There were many websites created around this premise suggesting that they should protest the movie by buying tickets and not going to the film, or standing during the showing in the theatre. Many were outraged by the film because the alien species was created and just "assumed" to be heterosexual by the humans.
The main character falls in love with one of the aliens and forms a relationship with her. In my personal opinion, I feel like the movie is just a movie. The movie was created for entertainment and not to make a point that heterosexuality is the only way to be. Homosexuality was not addressed in the film, and I think this was because it did not pertain to the movie, and why should it?
Gays and Lesbians should be incorporated into films, and they are progressing in this endeavor, but I do not think this film was trying to attack them in any way by not including a gay or lesbian character. The film was not supposed to be focused around the story line of relationships between males and females, it was more focused on the relationships between peoples (aliens, ect...ect).
The storyline mimics one very much like Pocahantus, and I find that it may have themes that parallel with racist ideas, but much like those protesting due to the gay/lesbian issues I think of it as a movie and a form of entertainment, not something to create anger.
