Curse of the Lottery

I've watched a show called Curse of the Lottery about how winning the lottery can destroy peoples lives. I decided to do a little research about it and I found a couple websites that explain the reality of winning the lottery. Although there are a few positive stories that come out of winning the lottery, it seems that more misfortune happens that fortune. These websites explain several cases in which winning the lottery practically ruined lives. The first website is a short article talking about how you have to have a financial plan for the large sum of money, otherwise lives can be torn apart. The second website talks about several people's stories and their downfalls. It also gives some facts about the lottery and some tips on what to do if you win. I think this "curse" is very interesting and it really shows how much an affect money has on people and their lives. Why does money make people so crazy?

The curse of winning the lottery has always been a topic that sparked my curiousity. I have already heard of some of the horror stories of past winners on news reports broadcasted on television. Reading into more detail about how some winners' lives turn out is still crazy to me. Money and wealth have always been viewed by the public as the road to happiness, but overwhelmingly most million dollar winners now have broken families and some have even declared bankruptcy. Winning the lottery does not relate to law very much, but I can see how it could. Married couples end up filing for divorce, winners are killed for the money, and lawyers out there are definitely dealing in some way to those types of problems. In my opinion psychology relates a lot to the curse put upon lottery winners. Researchers and even personal stories admit that to cope with winning so much money a person must already be satisfied with their life. If the person is buying lottery tickets in order to make it big and hopefully earn happiness from the money then that person is in for a shocker. After winning such a large sum of money a person's entire mentality changes. I would assume that the person's life goals and motivations change and so does their self-esteem. Also, socially a person would act much differently compared to the time before winning. They may display a more powerful and overly confident attitude towards others. Almost anything can change a person who wins such an insane amount of money and I believe that is the reason families and couples are torn apart because they are an entirely different person after winning. Money does weird things to people and in my opinion psychology has a lot to do with the "curse" that so many lottery winners deal with.
