I have been interested lately in a the matters of "jury of your peers" because when you start looking at how juries are, they aren't typically ones peers. Recently President Obama was summoned for jury duty, but was excused due to the fact that, well he's running our country. This got me wondering... should President Obama be held responsible to fulfill his duty of being a juror or be excused because he is the president? What do you think...

This is pretty interesting that he got selected but then again it is completely random so all is possible. On a side note the whole idea of a jury of your peers is not always what the prosecution and defense attorneys look for when selecting a jury. For one; anyone under 30 years old is considered too young to know better and lack life experience to be on a jury. Two, if you are being tried for drug charges the two sides wont pick an all drug dealers jury to represent you as your peers. For non-criminal cases then these two things might not apply and you may end up on the jury. Back to the question if the president of the country should have to report to jury duty, my opinion is no I hope he has and should be doing better things with his time.
Getting excused from jury duty because you have things to do isn't as odd you might think. I got excused from jury duty because I was still in high school at the time, and I would think that no one is going to tell the President of the United States that what he is doing isn't important. In my case of course I was called for jury duty as soon as school let out so I imagine that after Obama leaves office he may well get called up again.
I read the article through the link that you provided- it was very short! This blurb had only three comments on it so I decided to read them. I found that each writer had a different response. One accused the people who sent his jury duty notification to be stupid. Another noted that computers do most of the work and found this story to be funny. The last comment interested me because it was so different from what I think or what the previous commenters believe. This writer thought that Obama should have fulfilled his duty to set an example and also possibly change his address so the mistake would have been made.
I think this writer obviously does not think highly of President Obama because most Americans would want their president to be working hard around the clock. What if it was a criminal case? What if it lasted for days, weeks, years? I am satisfied with the decision made and am sure that someone filled his spot sufficiently.
