By Thursday of every week, you should have completed the activities associated with 1 project. You should blog about your experience as a comment to the blog posting of that particular project. Your blog comment can be largely experiential--tell us what it was like to do the project and what you learned. Products associated with the project and a more detailed analysis of the project will go in your portfolio (see the Portfolio blog post).
Project #11 -Choose a Person

I am choosing to learn about being a bailiff. I have never really thought about the degree requirements or just the general requirements it takes to become a bailiff.
I'm going to choose a probation/parole officer. I really want to see how they play a part in the law and how psychology affects these people in this career field.
I am choosing to learn and talk about a prosecutor. I was always curious as to how a person gets into a profession like this to fight for justice in the courtroom.
I'm going to choose to research a prosecutor. I intend on going to law school after undergrad, so I'm really interested in learning about possible career options after finishing law school.
I'm going to choose to get information on the prosecutor. I'm doing this because I think that it will be extremely interesting, and the one that I will learn the most about.
I am going to investigate the beloved "bailiff". Why? Let's face it, short of the court reporter, the bailiff is the only other "unsung hero" of the courtroom. Judges, Lawyers, Attorneys, Experts, yeah, you all have your fancy pants degrees and pie charts, but lets face it folks:
The bailiff is the only person in the room with a GUN.
I look forward to highlighting the mysterious and thrilling existence of the courtroom bailiff!
I am researching the detective. Our class discussion on Tuesday February 2nd got me interested in this line of work. I never realized how much the detective actually does at the scene of the crime, and furthering the investigation as far as it can go, whether that be to presenting the information to the prosecutor, or sucking it up and deeming the case unsolved.
The role I am choosing is the witness. Even though the role of the witness seems pretty straightforward, there are several circumstances related to being a witness for a case. Being a witness includes several other tasks than just testifying during trial, which is what most of us initially think of. What does it really mean to be subpoenaed, what if you don't comply with the law when subpoenaed, etc. All of which I will address in my analysis of this role.
I chose the District Attorney. The reason I chose this particular role was because they have a huge role in determining if a case should go to trial or not.I had to meet with the my towns D.A. and she explained the whole court process and really had a handle on how cases do in court and they have to deal with a lot of heat from victims of the case doesnt play out the way they want. They also have to handle many different aspects of the job, they do not work on the federal level though.
I decided to find out about the role of a judge. The reason for my decision is because I've never really thought about what they have had to do to hold that position. I think it'd be interesting to learn about the aspects of a judge's job.
I'm going to be researching on the roles and other various things about the bailiff, mainly because I know very little about what they do because all other job titles pretty much steal the show. It'll be interesting to learn what the fancy/not so fancy stuff they get to do! :D
I am going to research the prosecutor. I think they have a really interesting job, but I want to find out more of what they do. I realize the TV shows depict their jobs as intense and exciting 24/7, so I want to get the real facts of what their job duties are.
For project number 11 I am going to choose to do a profile on a witness of a case. I have chosen a witness because I think that they are commonly over looked in the psychological process. The witness often has the most psychological hardship because they saw what happened and have to live with the images their entire life. Then they have the responsibility of “telling” on the person and this could out them or their family in danger depending on the degree of the crime. This is why I want to profile the witness.
I am choosing to research a prosecutor. I have always been interested in what a prosecutor's job entails. I have thought about going to law school after I finish with UNI and this has been one of the careers I have looked into briefly. I have seen how TV shows depict a prosecutor, making their jobs look like an action packed movie all day every day. I know the life of a prosecutor is not like that, but I will be interesting to see what a real prosecutor does compared to what they do in the movies.
For this project, I chose to research a forensic technician. I love watching "NCIS" on TV. Abby the forensics tech is one of my favorite characters. Her role has always interested me in that particular field. Along with that and "Dexter," I have also admired how forensic science is a way that we can really get all the facts about a case and has the capability of putting the right person behind bars.
For this project, I chose to research a BPA or a Blood Pattern Analyst. This is a specialty field for forensic investigators that uses the bloodstains as pieces of evidence in a crime. For this sort of job, you would need extensive training in not only biology and blood work but also in physics. Made popular by shows like Dexter and CSI, I intend to find the ‘truths’ behind BPA’s and how they actually work. I am curious to see if these shows are reliable in the way that BPA’s work.
I chose a a judge since it combined aspects of a lawyer and judge. Since I started looking into information regarding admissability of evidence in court, and guidelines for investigative techniques, the role of the judge in court proceedings interested me so I went through a large number of websites documeting the education, skills, personality characteristics, and duties of a judge.
I am choosing to research Inmates. Not only that but I want to look at the psychological stability of them in prison. I am reading an interesting article about a psychologist working in a prison to help rehabilitate adult male inmates. She strives to help them reconnect with society in a positive way after leaving prison. I can see myself working as a psychologist in a prison some day so I look forward to finding out more about inmates in this project.
I am going to chose the role of a detective. When I was in about third grade, me and my friend pretended we were detectives...so why not research it?:) I think it's a very interesting job, and I'm excited to find out more about this field, and even maybe consider it a career someday!
I have chosen to interview a detective that served with the Division of Criminal Investigation for over 30 years. My reasons for interviewing this person is that it is a great way for me to get advice on a possible career in the near future.
The role I'm choosing to research is a judge. I think it would be interesting to see what kind of qualifications are necessary, and what they go through on a day-to-day basis at their job.
For this project I have chosen to research the profession of a forensic technician. The main reason I chose this profession is because it interests me after watching the show Forensic Files on television. Also, I am curious to know the training and education a person must attain to become a forensic technician.
I have decided to look into Detectives mostly becuase I would like to know how much they differ in reality from the depictions the receive in the media.
I'm going to look into Judges because I don't fully understand what their role is in the legal system. If a jury comes to a decision, what is it that they are judging?
The role that I am choosing is Probation Officer. I chose this profession because this is the profession that I want to go into once I graduate from UNI. Also, I have always wondered what it takes to become a Probation Officer.
I am going to choose to be a juror. Although many may think that this is probably the most boring on the list, it is also probably the most important since they ultimately decide what the defendant’s fate is. Also, it is the role in the court that I am most likely to do. (Not including being a defendant. Joking. Hopefully.)
The role that I am choose is the police officer. I think they have a very important job. I want to learn more about all they do with law enforcement and how they are important to the community!
The role that I am going to choose is the police officer. I think they have a very important job. I want to learn more about all they do with law enforcement and how they are important to the community!
The role I am going to choose is that of witnesses. These are the people who can be a great help or hinderence in the investigation process. What they say/do can significantly alter a crime.
For my first one of these I choose a Probation/Parole officer and found it very interesting. It is something I would like to peruse with my college degree. to go along with that, I am now going to choose the role of an inmate. Inmates are commonly overlooked, but they fit right in with the system, they are what half makes the system. I want to focus on characteristics of an inmate, what are the steps to them getting out on parole, and why some of them do what they do. I am very interested to go into the minds of inmates.
I am looking up information on the expert witness. I choose this one because i dont really know what it is and I'm curious. I want to learn why the expert witness is important and what makes them different from a regular witness.
I am going to research and write about victims, specifically victims of robbery. I think psychology applies to their reaction, if they witnessed part of the robbery or were physically injured in any way. Psychology is also a component of their emotional reaction to what was stolen from them, if they had any specific attachments to those possessions.
The role I am choosing is the probation officer. I learned that, in some states and some circumstances, the probation officer can be lumped together with the job of the parole officer. I had always thought they were two totally different jobs, but I realize now that they are quite similar. I want to learn what the difference is between the two officers and what it takes to become one.
I am choosing to write about expert witnesses because they are so trusted by the jury that they can easily sway a case.
I am choosing to do the role of a profiler. Most of the times when we think of a profiler we think of the Behavioral Analysis unit of the FBI therefore that is the angle that I am going focus on. I am choosing this person because I am very interested in what exactly their job entails. Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows and it will be interesting to me to see how must of the show is relative and accurate to the actual job.
I am choosing the Private Investigator, mostly because of the adolescent-driven innuendo inherent to the title.
