If you would like to attend activities for Darwin week I can give you a
couple of points if you can relate it back to the class (how it ties into what
we have been learning/doing).
I went to the Darwin week talk on Wednesday at 2:00. It was the talk that was titled “What it Means to be Human: Social Ethics of Charles Darwin” By Michael Blackwell. Honestly it is long shot to relate this talk back to sensation and perception, but I am going to try. In summary, Dr. Blackwell talked about Charles Darwin’s probable social views pertaining to racism and Christianity. Dr. Blackwell’s presentation was in defense of implications of Darwin being racist. He discusses Darwin’s upbringing and certain instances that he talks about in journals about having sympathy for slaves. One of his main points was that Darwin did not mean to elicit Social Darwinism. That was something that was implied from his work by others. See how this is hard to relate back to Sensation and Perception?
Dr. Blackwell talked about different races evolving in the environment they lived in to best suit their environment. This is why we all have different skin tones. He touched on the lactose in-tolerance in places like India because of lack of exposure to milk. The only thing I can really think of is to relate this back to taste which is something we will eventually cover….

Definitely some misconceptions about what Darwin was trying to convey. Glad you enjoyed the experience.
