Blueprint for an Ames Room

What does this tell us about the expectations our visual has of the world?

What does this say about size constancy?

I found this example of size constancy very interesting! Our visual system relies on Euclidian geometry which allows us to make inferences about our world. This illusion is created by manipulating the angles and lines that we see to make it appear as though the room is a normal room. It also uses the idea of size constancy which is the perception that objects' sizes remain constant across distances despite the fact that on our retina they appear smaller or larger. Because the room is set up so the girl is further away on our retina and the room manipulates Eucilian geometry we have the perception that she is much smaller than the boy when in reality she is the same size.
