I'm interested in HR management so I found this article knowledgeable. I thought about how I can avoid these things when I become a manager and how to handle the situation if they do in fact occur.
1.Your company is on a downward spiral
2. Your relationship with your manager is damaged beyond repair.
3. Your life situation has changed.
4. Your values are different from your company.
5. You don't enjoy your job.
6. Your company is ethically challenged.
7. You have behaved wrongfully at work.
8. You have burned too many bridges.
9. Your stress levels from work are affecting you physically and emotionally.
10. You don't feel challenged.
Is there another reason you could think of that would create turnover? Which of these reasons would make you want to quit instantly? How many people do you think are actually unhappy with their job but just stick with it for income?
These are some questions that I think about often. I know in the past I haven't gotten along with co-workers and I never wanted to be at that job, no matter if I needed money or not. I think number nine is a big one, I know while in school I have felt very stressed and work just added to my stress and made me want to quit.

I think that those are the major ten reasons why a person would leave their job. Personally I would quit right away if I did not enjoy my job, life situations have changed, had high stress levels, or the company was ethically challenged. I would also think that a high majority of people are unhappy at work because there are so many things that can occur at work to make that person unhappy. Any kind of hostile work environment could lead to unhappiness. One of the main reasons that an unhappy person would stay at work is because of the salary. Obviously, to that person the benefits outweigh the costs; how much they get paid is enough to make them stay working there even if they are unhappy. However, once a person becomes so unhappy that the costs outweigh the benefits, in this case their salary, I would hope people would quit. I am sure, however, that a lot of people out there stick with that job even if the cost outweighs the benefits. Especially in the economy that America is in now a lot more people will stick with their current jobs longer even if they are unhappy there. At a time like this it doesn’t make sense to leave a bad job for no job.
I found this great article titled “Why do I hate my job”. This article is about job burnout. The article goes into great detail about stress theory and job burnout, as well as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and job burnout. The article also then talks about motivation and job burnout. You can find this article at http://www.filthylucre.com/job-burnout-theories
I found it interesting that there was nothing about wages in the article, If I was working construction and getting $8.00 and hour forget about it, there would be no motivation. Though lack of equal pay for work may cause a multitude of the items listed.
Another thing that could create turnover is environment, whether it be physical or social. I also think the majority of people are probably unhappy with their job's but stick with it for the income, how common is it that people really get that dream job where they can get into the state of flow, and really enjoy what they are doing all the time?
Personally I would leave my job for reasons 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9.
Many of I would not foresee happening, but then again it all comes back to that paycheck, I would definitely have a new job in place before I quit.
I wonder how data was collected for this list or if it even was? It doesn't really give any details.
