Well for starters in a bit of sick way this was a little bit funny. When were first explaining his punishment, something such as removal would be a good start. It would end the behavior, but would not necessarily predict future behaviors such as that one. Killing the animal is definitely the leat effective method. That goes back to some of the Chinese punishments. It serves no long term good for the trainer or other individuals. Also, as he is the lead man of the show at Sea World, harsh punishments would also lose their value as "examples" for the other animals. When working with an animal such as that you must always remember what they are capable of.
