Hi Class,

So far we have discussed reinforcement (increasing the frequency of a behavior as a result of the consequence) and punishment (decreasing the frequency of a behavior as a result of the consequence). What I would like you to do is to find just one  video clip off the internet where it illustrates both reinforcement and punishment in the same video.

For originality sake, make sure the videos you are not using the same videos the four other students before you just used. Please be sensitive to this issue.

I would like you to briefly describe/summarize the clip. Next: 1) Tell us what behavior (target behavior) you are using that illustrates the reinforced  behavior (be careful as there are often many behaviors in a video and you need to isolate the behavior of interest). MAKE SURE IT IS A BEHAVIOR AND NOT A BEHAVIORAL CLASS. 2) Next tell us what the consequence of the behavior is. 3) Then tell us how, that consequence will increase the frequency of the behavior. 4) Tell us if the consequence involves the addition of something or if it involves the removal of something. 5) Finally tell us to the antecedent is.

Please then list the ABC's of the behavior

A=
B=
C=

Now state if this is an example of positive reinforcement, or negative reinforcement.

Do the same for the second part of the clip

Copy and paste the URL at the bottom so we can go and see the video you used.

Once you are done with your post make list of the terms and terminology you used in your post. We will be looking for terminology that has been introduced in the class so far. Your post will be worth more with more terminology used.

Let me know if you have any questions....

This is a clip from the TV series, American Dad. After watching the clip we see that Stan initally plans on scaring his wife francine so he hides under the kitchen sink, not knowing that she already knows his plan because has been trying to get him to stop pranking her for awhile now. then suddenly francine ends up scaring stan and then he stops scaring her. The target behavior is stan continuously scaring francine. Francine hopes to reinforce a new behavior in him that involves him NOT scaring her constantly. The consequence of the behavior is that francine will keep scaring stan but if he doesnt continue to scare her then she will not scare him anymore and he will not feel like a "baby". The consequence involves adding something, she elicits fear in stan. Francine responds to stan with this consequence and the antecedent is Francine being tired of stan always scaring her.
A= Francine grows tired of Stan scaring her
B= Stan continues to scare her after she asks him to stop
C= Francine gets her revenge
This is an example of Negative punishment because he is losing the fun he was having when scaring francine
Terms: elicit, antecedent, reinforce,target behavior,respond.

I used the Harry Potter Puppet Pals clip Neville's birthday to illustrate reinforcement and punishment.
What happens is that Harry Hermoine and Ron are manipulated to attend Neville's Birthday party.They are deprived of doing what they wanted, so they become bored, call Nevile names and cause him to commit suicide.
1) The first target behavior is Harry Ron and Hermoine's attendance to Neville's Birthday Party. This occurs toward the beginning 2)The consequence of emitting the behavior of attending the party is not being expelled.3)Not being expelled will increase the likelihood of attendance to the party because they do not want to be expelled.4) This is positive because it adds the consequence of being expelled if Harry and friends do not attend. 5)the Antecedent is that its Neville's Birthday.

A= It is Neville's Birthday
B= Harry, Ron and Hermoine attend Neville's Birthday.
C= They are not expelled.
This i positive reinforcement.

Now for punishment. This takes place beginning around 4.31 in the clip. 1) The target behavior is Harry and friends calling Neville lame. 2)Consequently,this elicits Neville to self destructs. 3) Neville's self destructing will decrease the likelihood that Harry emits the behavior of name calling in the future.4) The consequence adds the event of suicide. 5) the antecedent is being at Neville's Birthday Party.

A= Harry emits the behavior of attending Nevill's Birthday Party.
B= Harry calls Neville Lame.
C= Neville explodes.
This is a positive punishment because it adds death.

emit, elicit, positive punishment, positive reinforcement, target behavior, deprivation.

The clip presented is Peter getting milked by a woman. She asks him to moo, and he does just that.

The behavior that reinforces the target behavior is quite simple. The lady asks Peter to moo and he does it. She asked him to elicit a moo louder and louder, and Peter does what she says. By Peter emitting the behavior she asks it reinforces to the woman that if she asks Peter to moo even louder he will do that. When Peter emited the behavior, every time she asked it, it reinforced to the lady that he would emit any response she asked of him.

The consequences of the behavior is she continues to ask Peter to moo louder and louder. The woman gets a thrill from this because one can see a slight smile on her face. Peter does what she says and cries as he does it.

The consequence of the behavior will increase the frequency of the behavior because the woman gets the response she wants from Peter every time she asks. She asks Peter to elicit a mooing sound and he does just that. Every time she asks him to do it louder, he emits the mooing sound even louder. She enjoys having Peter do whatever she asks of him.

The consequences of the behavior involves the addition of something. It involves Peter having to moo louder and louder whenever the woman asks as she milks him.

The antecedent in this clip is the woman being at a conference Louis is speaking at.

A= The woman is at the conference Lois is speaking at
B= Peter is told to moo
C= the woman asks Peter to moo louder and louder

This is positive reinforcement.

The behavior that I am using is when Lois sticks up for Peter. Lois sticks up for Peter because a woman gets on stage and tries to start talking bad about him, and she doesn't like that.

The consequence of Lois doing this is not good. The woman gets mad and sees that Lois won't fight the woman herself so she makes Peter get on his hands and knees and she proceeds to emit a milking behavior.

The consequence will decrease the likelihood that Lois will stick up for Peter again, because she doesn't want Peter to get milked again.

The consequence involves the addition of a couple things. Peter is milked, and also Peter starts to cry. This are the too consequences to him getting milked.

The antecedent of this clip is Lois speaking at a conference.

A= Lois is speaking at a conference
B= Lois sticks up for Peter
C= Peter gets milked and cries

This is an example of positive punishment.

In this clip Homer sells his soul to the devil for a donut. He then finds out from the devil that as long as he doesn’t finish the donut that the devil doesn’t get his soul. The rest of the clip follows Homer as he finishes the donut and whether he has to go to hell or not.

1. The target behavior is not eating the entire donut
2. Homer eats the rest of the donut which leads him to go to hell and eat donuts
3. This consequence will increase the frequency of this behavior because no matter how many donuts there are to eat, Homer will enjoy eating them.
4. This consequence includes the addition of something, which is the thousands of donuts that he is forced to eat
5. The antecedent is that Homer is starving at work and says that he will sell his soul for a donut
A – Homer is hungry at work and agrees to sell his soul for a donut
B – He finishes the entire donut
C – Sent to hell and forced to eat thousands of donuts
This is an example of positive reinforcement.

1. The target behavior is not eating the entire donut
2. Homer eats the donut which leads to the consequence of the devil showing up and demanding that Homer go to hell with him, while Marge protests and demands a trail
3. This consequence decreases the chance that Homer will do this again because he is sent straight to hell where he is chopped into pieces. Being chopped into pieces is generally seen as being aversive which will decrease the chances that he will finish the donut again.
4. The consequence involves the removal of something, which is Homer’s body parts
5. The antecedent is that Homer is at work and he is extremely hungry and says I would sell my soul for a donut, which prompts the devil to appear and agree to the deal
A – Homer is hungry at work and agrees to sell his soul for a donut, but it is only valid if he finishes the entire donut.
B – He finishes the rest of the donut
C – The devil appears and sends him to hell for punishment
This is an example of negative punishment

This clip is about a classroom full of kids that are rude to their teacher.

Reinforcement:

1.The target behavior is kids packing their bags before class is over
2.The consequence is the teacher ending class early
3.Ending class early when the kids pack their bags will increase the likelihood that they will do it at the end of every class.
4.It involves the removal of class time.
5.The antecedent is in a classroom

A= In a classroom
B= Packing bags before class is over
C= Teacher ends class early

Punishment:

1.The target behavior is a student answering a cell phone during class
2.The consequence is getting a dirty look from the teacher
3.Getting a dirty look from the teacher will decrease the likelihood of a student answering their phone during class.
4.It involves the addition of a dirty look from the teacher
5.The antecedent is in a classroom

A= In a classroom
B= Answering a cell phone
C= Getting a dirty look from the teacher

This video is one of my favorites from America's Funniest Home Videos. In this clip, a boy has a new pet mouse that he has outside. Instead of holding the mouse, he puts it on the top of the wire mouse cage and out of no where, a hawk swoops down and grabs the mouse. We can assume the hawk ate the boy's pet mouse and the boy would be upset his new pet died.

1. The targetted reinforced behavior is the hawk swooping down to capture the mouse.
2. The consequence of this behavior is that the hawk gets to eat the mouse and not be hungry or starve to dead (the circle of life is sad).
3. If the hawk gets fed by swooping down and catching mice, the hawk will continue emitting this behavior for survival. It would be the same for humans going to the grocery store for food, we buy food to feed our bodies to survive.
4. The consequence is adding the mouse into the hawks diet for the day.
5. The antecedent would be maybe not eating all day for the hawk, or having baby hawks to go back and feed.

A= Hungry hawk (lack of hunting all day)
B= swooping down to capture the boy's pet mouse
C= the hawk gets fed and no longer has to search for food since we can assume the hawk ate the mouse.

This would be an example of positive reinforcement.

1. The targetted punished behvaior is the boy putting down the mouse outside of the safety of the wire cage.
2. The consequence of this behavior was that the hawk swooped down and took the new pet (mouse) away and consumed it.
3. This will decrease the bahvior of the boy putting his pets down outside of their cages especially in the outdoor environment because we can assume the boy doesn't like his pets being another animals' lunch.
4. The consequence is taking away the comfort of the boy having pets outside in the open.
5. The antecedent would be wanting to put the mouse down to watch him "play" on top of the cage.
A= put the mouse down ontop of the wire cage to watch the mouse play
B= Hawk swoops down and captures mouse (assume that the hawk ate the mouse)
C= Boy is upset his pet became lunch (assume) and that the boy will not take his future pets outside

This would be negative punishment.

This is a Family Guy clip where Peter, Stewie, Brian, and Chris all drink some sort of medicine that makes you puke and however goes the longest without puking gets the last piece of pie.

Reinforcement
1. The target behavior here is going the longest without puking.
2. The consequence of this behavior will be receiving the last piece of pie.
3. Receiving the pie will increase the frequency of the target behavior by the individual enjoying the pie and thinking they will win again if they repeat the contest.
4. This consequence involves the addition of something, in this case a piece of pie.
5. The antecedent here is a family competition.
A= A family competition
B= Go the longest without puking
C= Get the last piece of pie
This is an example of positive reinforcement.

Punishment
1. The target behavior here is drinking the medicine that makes you puke.
2. The consequence of this behavior is having extreme projectile puking.
3. The consequence will decrease the behavior because after having this painful puking experience they will no longer want to drink that medicine again.
4. This consequence involves the addition of a painful puking experience.
5. The antecedent here is a family competition.
A= A family competition
B= Drinking a puke inducing medicine
C= Having painful projectile vomiting
This is an example of positive punishment.

Video 1

This is a clip of a cartoon called Kailan. The clip in the beginning is my focus. Kailan is trying to get you to speak in Chinese. She says to get “us” to pull, say, “la”. The target behavior is to get you to speak Chinese and say “la”. The consequence is upon you saying “la”, she and her grandfather emitted to pull the box. This will increase the behavior because Kailan and her grandfather have to pull the box up the hill and can only do so when you say pull, or, “la”. This would involve the addition of adding a new word to the child’s vocabulary. I believe the antecedent would just be watching the cartoon.

A= Watching Kailan
B= Saying “la”
C= Kailan pulls box

This is an example of positive reinforcement.

Video 2

The video has 2 different entries of punishments. I am focused on the first one. In a prior conversation not shown on this clip, Brian and Meg had a conversation about them being just friends and Meg made him a pie, BUT it had her hair in it. Because he didn’t want to be with her and she did him, she wanted to punish him by giving him pie with her hair in it. The target behavior Meg wanted Brian to feel a part of her inside him. The consequence was for Brian to have a piece of Meg by eating some of her pie she made. It would only increase the behavior of him not wanting to be with her though, not what her intentions were. This involves the adding of the hair. The antecedent was sitting on the couch.

A= Sitting on the couch
B= Eating pie with Meg’s hair
C= Having a part of Meg

This would be an example of positive punishment.

This clip is from American Dad and involves Steve and a "psycho" cat that has been on the show previously.
Reinforcement:
1.In the beginning of this clip Steve is emitting a target behavior of playing the cello.
2.The consequence of Steve emitting this behavior is the audience applauding and standing. Steve receives a standing ovation.
3.This consequence will increase the occurrence of the target behavior because a standing ovation is non-aversive.
4.In this instance the applause is being added.
5.The Antecedent is an auditorium at a cello concert.
A=Cello Concert (Auditorium)
B=Playing the Cello
C=Standing Ovation from the audience
This clip is an example of positive reinforcement.

Punishment
At about 1:10 Steve is holding onto Simon (the cat) when Simon suddenly attacks Steve and the rest of the clip is of the two of them fighting.
1.The target behavior here is Steve holding Simon in his arms close.
2.The consequence of Steve emitting this behavior is that Simon attacks Steve and the two of them fight.
3.This consequence will decrease the occurrence of Steve holding Simon because it was an aversive experience and Steve was hurt in the process.
4.The consequence involves the addition of being attacked as well as cuts from Simon's claws.
5.The antecedent is the auditorium where Steve's cello concert was.
A=Cello Concert (auditorium)
B=Holding Simon in his arms
C=Simon attacking(scratching) Steve and the two of them fight
This clip is an example of positive punishment.

Review of the Clip with both of my examples of Reinforcement and Punishment
In this clip it is from Anchorman: The legend of Ron Burgundy. This clip is about Brain wanting to hit on Veronica by putting on cologne that is called Sex Panther that is supposed to make her fall for him and Brain thinks it will work because it says that it works 60 percent of the time. The cologne it actually smells awful that he does not recognize but Veronica does and hates the smell of it and has to run away from the smell along with everyone else in the office.

Reinforcement
1) The target behavior is Brain wearing the cologne in the office to talk to Veronica because it is said to work 60 percent of the time.
2) The consequence of the behavior is putting on the cologne that he thinks smells good and will give him confidence to talk to Veronica.
3) The frequency of Brain emitting the behavior of putting the cologne on by thinking it smells good because it was told it helped with attracting women will increase the likelihood of him repeating this action.
4) The consequence involves the addition to Brain putting the cologne on himself to attract Veronica to him.
5) The antecedent is in the office of Brain where the cologne is stored on a shelf.

A: Brains office where the cologne is
B: Putting on the cologne
C: Brain thinks he smells good to attract Veronica

This is an example of positive punishment because it is adding the cologne.

Punishment
1) The target behavior is Brain wearing the cologne and Veronica smelling the cologne.
2) The consequence of this behavior that was elicited on Veronica after Brain came to talk to her was that the smell was very aversive and caused her to leave the room along with everyone else.
3) The likelihood of Brain emitting this behavior to wear the cologne again has decrease because he did not receive the results he wanted be Veronica leaving the room.
4) The consequence involves the removal of something and that would be Veronica because of the smell of the cologne.
5) The antecedent is in the office next to Veronica.

A: Veronica in the office with Brain
B: Brain wearing the cologne and Veronica smelling it
C: The smell is very aversive to Veronica that she has to walk away from Brain.

This is an example of negative punishment because the removal of Veronica.

Topic Blog Week # 3

This clip is an excerpt from the TV program called Seinfeld. In this clip George and Jerry are trying to order soup from a person they call the Soup Nazi who has a particular way he wants people to order their soup (or he refuses to serve them).

Punishment

1.) The target behavior is George complaining to the Soup Nazi about not getting bread with his soup.
2.) The consequence for this target behavior is the Soup Nazi then taking the bowl of soup away from George.
3.) This will decrease the behavior of George complaining about his order in the future because the soup (reinforcer) has been taken away.
4.) This is an example of negative punishment because it is the removal of the reinforcer following a response.
5.) The antecedent is George not receiving bread with his order of soup.

A= George not getting bread with his order of soup
B= George complaining about not getting bread with his order of soup.
C= the soup Nazi taking George’s soup away.

This is an example of negative punishment. Negative because it involves the removal of a reinforcer. Punishment because the removal of a reinforcer, following the target behavior, will result in the behavior occurring in the future.

Terms: target behavior, consequence, reinforcer, antecedent, negative punishment

Reinforcement

1.) Target behavior is Jerry properly ordering soup without complaining.
2.) The consequence of ordering properly (target behavior) is getting a bowl of soup.
3.) The soup is a reinforcer for Jerry. He exchanges money for the bowl of soup. Since Jerry’s target behavior is reinforced, he will likely continue to order the “correct” way in the future.
4.) The consequence is an addition because Jerry is given a bowl of soup.
5.) The antecedent is Jerry being at the front of the line, ready to order, facing the soup Nazi.

A = Jerry being at the front of line and the soup Nazi is ready to take his order.
B= Jerry giving his order for soup correctly.
C= Jerry receives a bowl of the soup he has ordered.

This is an example of positive reinforcement because the reinforcer of getting soup is being added, following Jerry emitting the target behavior of ordering the soup correctly.

Terms: target behavior, positive reinforcement, emitting, consequence, reinforcer, antecedent

This video clip is a scene from the movie Home Alone 2. In this scene, Kevin is emitting a behavior of electrocuting Marv, one of the robbers that is after him, in order to deter him from burglarizing stores within New York City as well as kidnapping Kevin himself.

Reinforcement:
1)The target behavior that is eliciting a reinforcement response is Kevin electrocuting Marv.

2)The consequences of this emitted behavior is seen through the establishing operation of the sink being connected to the electrocution machine. Kevin is reinforced through Marv’s electrocution due to the fact that Marv’s electrocution prevents him from advancing further in his robbery plans as well as coming down on Kevin.

3)The reinforcement from Kevin stalling Marv with the electrocution increases the likelihood that Kevin will try more tactics such as this to help deter the robbers and to secure his safety.

4)The consequence involves the removal of Marv from the picture for a short amount of time. The electrocution of Marv disables him for a while and allows Kevin to gain clearance from the robbers.

5)The antecedent to this behavior is Marv and Harry going after Kevin to kidnap him in order to complete their plan of robbery.

A = Marv and Harry going after Kevin to kidnap him.

B = Kevin electrocuting Marv.

C = Marv is electrocuted and no longer in a capable condition to kidnap Kevin.

This is an example of negative reinforcement, because as a consequence of Kevin electrocuting Marv, an aversive situation such as Kevin being kidnapped is avoided.

Punishment:

1)The target behavior that illustrates the punished behavior is Marv emitting the behavior of turning the handles on the sink.

2)The consequence of Marv turning the handles on the sink is Marv getting electrocuted.

3)The consequence of Marv being electrocuted will decrease the likelihood of Marv wanting to turn the handles on a sink in the future in fear of getting electrocuted.

4)The consequence involves the removal of Marv’s ability to clean himself up with the water, as well as, complete his task of kidnapping Kevin.

5)The antecedent to Marv’s emitted behavior of turning on the sink is Marv getting covered in paint and wanting to clean himself up.

A = Marv being covered in paint.

B = Marv turning the handles on the sink.

C = Marv getting electrocuted.

This is an example of negative punishment, because this involves taking away the desirable water from Marv and presenting him with an aversive consequence such as electrocution to reduce his chances of kidnapping Kevin.

In this clip of The Breakfast Club, students are in detention and Principal Vernon is trying to keep the door open to keep an eye on them. 1) The target behavior is Principal Vernon trying to elicit the behavior of putting the chair in between the door and the frame to keep it from closing. 2) The consequence of the behavior is the chair isn’t strong enough and results in the door shutting. 3) The consequence of the door shutting will decrease the frequency of emitting the behavior of using the chair to keep the door open. 4) The consequence involves adding a chair to increase the frequency of the door not shutting. 5) The antecedent is the library where the students are serving their detention time.

A: The library where detention is being held.
B: Putting the chair in front of the door
C: Door shutting.

This is an example of positive reinforcement by adding the chair in order to keep the door open.

In this clip, Principal Vernon threatens Bender with detention for his disrespectful actions. 1) The target behavior is Bender talking back to Principal Vernon. 2) The consequence of the behavior is Principal Vernon tacking on another Saturday detention eliciting a feeling of threat in Bender. 3) The consequence of receiving detention leaves Bender to decrease the frequency of emitting the behavior of talking back to Principal Vernon. 4) The consequence involves not talking back should decrease the amount of detentions added. 5) The antecedent is being in detention on a Saturday.

A: In detention
B: Talking back
C: Receiving detention

This is an example of negative punishment by talking back less in order to receive less detention time.

Jim offers to hold the door for Dwight who refuses to walk through it. Dwight presents Jim with a short speech on preparedness, to which Jim refutes with an unprofessional slap across the face.

1.) The target behavior is for Dwight to continue through the doorway to the sales call.
2.) Jim holds the door open for Dwight to walk through.
3.) Dwight will not have to stop to open the door.
4.) Jim emitted the behavior of removing an obstacle from Dwight’s path.

Sorry this posted three times! It wasn't supposed to and I can't find where to delete the extra two posts!

Well since I have about the attention span of a three year old this video is perfect! It's technically a music video elicited for little children, but I find it hilarious and entertaining and both punishment and reinforcement are shown. 1.) This target behavior for punishment is about 26 seconds into the video when gummy bear emitted to stomp his gummy foot on the microphone. 2.) The consequence of this behavior is that when he manipulates the microphone, he gets bonked in the head with the microphone. 3.) The consequence will decrease the behavior because getting bonked in the head is aversive, and this video is extremely repetitive, but they only show that clip once more in the video, so obviously gummy bear learned his lesson. 4.)The consequence involves the addition of being hit on the head. 5.)The antecedent is being a sugary singing gummy bear pop star.

ABC's of Behavior

A= Being a sugary singing gummy bear pop star
B= Stomping foot on microphone
C= Getting bonked in the head with the microphone

This would be an example of positive punishment because the aversive consequence of being bonked in the head is added.

1.) The target behavior on the positive side would be the gummy bear bouncing the gangster car which first happens right after he gets bonked in the head. 2.) The consequence of this behavior is the gummy bear looks extremely cool. 3.) This would increase the frequency of this clip being shown because looking cool is a pleasurable thing. 4.) The consequence involves the addition of looking cool, so it would be positive reinforcement, they show gummy bear in the car at least 4 different times throughout the video. 5.) The antecedent is being a sugary pop star gummy bear who makes music videos.

The ABC's of behavior

A= Being a sugary pop star gummy bear who makes music videos
B= Bouncing a gangster car
C= Looking cool

This would be positive reinforcement because he has the addition of looking cool when he bounces his gangster car.

This is a clip from the crime show series NCIS (best show ever!). In this clip, Ziva is upset that she can’t search the internet without all of these pop-up ads popping up on her computer. All she wants is to read the news, but all she keeps getting are pop up ads. This becomes very aversive for her. Then at the end of the clip, Gibbs comes in and slaps a newspaper on his desk which elicits an attention getting response.

1) The target behavior that illustrates the reinforced behavior is Gibbs smacking the newspaper against his desk. 2) The consequence of this behavior is that it gets McGee’s attention; makes him look up and focus on Gibbs. 3) This consequence will increase the frequency of Gibbs slapping the newspaper against his desk because he now knows that when he does this, people emit an attention response, which is what he wants. 4) This consequence involves the addition of something (McGee’s attention). 5) The antecedent is sitting in the office.

A: Sitting in the office
B: Gibbs smacks the newspaper against the desk
C: Gets McGee’s attention; he looks up and focus’ on Gibbs.

This is Positive Reinforcement.

1) The target behavior that illustrates the punishment behavior is Ziva looking at a hair loss advertisement on the internet. 2) The consequence of this behavior is that she no longer likes searching the internet. 3) This consequence will decrease the frequency of her using the internet because pop-up ads always pop up on her computer and she never gets to look at what she wants to. She doesn’t like pop up ads. 4) It involves the removal of something (the internet). 5) The antecedent is her being on the computer and searching the internet.

A: Being on her computer and searching the internet
B: Looking at a hair loss advertisement on the internet
C: She no longer likes searching the internet

This is Negative Punishment

Clip: Punishment is in the beginning of the clip and reinforcement is at the very end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIaKytHpfpQ

This is only a 7 second clip and it takes the characters from WALL-E and shows wall-e and eve emitting the behavior of playing baseball.
1)The target behavior for punishment in this video is when the ball is manipulated towards wall-e very fast
2)The consequence of this behavior is that wall-e hides his head and squeaks
3)This consequence should decrease the behavior of the ball throwing because it elicited an aversive reaction from wall-e
4)This consequence involves the addition of the behavior of throwing the ball.
5)The antecedent is playing baseball

A=playing baseball
B=throwing the ball
C=wall-e's aversive response

This part of the clip is the example of positive punishment because they are adding the throwing of the ball as a punishment for wall-e.

1) our target behavior for reinforcement in this video is when walle ducks his head inside himself.
2)The consequence of this behavior is that it elicits eve to laugh and smile
3) This consequence should increase the frequency of wall-e to emit this behavior because it is a pleasurable one for eve.
4)The consequence involves the addition of eve's smiling and laughing behavior
5)The antecedent is them playing baseball

A=playing baseball
B=wall-e hiding his head
C=eve laughs and smiles

This is an example of positive reinforcement because wall-e is adding his behavior of hiding his head so he elicits the positive behavior of eve laughing and smiling.

This is a commercial for T-Mobile, and its family plans. The mother is changing the minutes on each childs phone according to their performance in school. Target behavior is their performance in school being reinforced by the increased number of minutes they recieve on their phone. The positive consequence is that lowering their minutes would emit a likelihood of them getting good grades in the future so they can talk more on their phone. The antecdent is mom at the computer.

A=Mom at the computer
B=Perfomance in school
C=The increase or decrease of minutes

This is a positive consequence because it will elicit better school performance.

I am using a clip from the T.V. show, Family Guy. In this clip, Lois and Brian are lounging on floaties in the water, and Peter is acting like he is a shark. Both Lois and Brian find Peter’s behavior aversive, so they scold him and tell him to go away by positively punishing him, because they’re isn’t even any sharks in the water in the first place. Then the clip moves to reveal a shark in the water emitting a talking to himself about how he could eat the people, but he is trying to watch his weight through deprivation.
1)The target behavior is Peter swimming around the others with his shark hat on saying how he is a shark. 2) The consequence of Peter’s behavior is Brian and Lois telling him that his behavior is becoming aversive. 3) This consequence will decrease Peter’s behavior, because he will move away from Lois and Brian. 4) This consequence involves the addition of Lois’s scolding to Peter. 5) The antecedent in this part it is the Griffin family at the beach.
A- The Griffin family at the beach.
B- Peter pretends he is a shark by swimming around them and singing a shark song.
C- Brian and Lois get annoyed by Peter’s aversive behavior.
This is an example of positive punishment
1)The second part of the clip that I am focusing on is where the shark is in the water emitting a talking behavior to himself about not eating people. 2) The target behavior is to continue not eating people. The consequence of this behavior is the shark emitting the talking behavior to himself about how he was alone last Fourth of July, and how he could stand to lose a little weight through deprivation. 3) This consequence will increase the likelihood that the shark will continue to not eat people. 4) This consequence involves the addition of the shark emitting a talking behavior to himself. 5) The antecedent is the shark is hungry when there are swimmers around to eat.
A- The shark is hungry when there are swimmers around to eat.
B- The shark tells himself why he shouldn’t eat the people.
C- The shark only watches the people and does not eat them.
This is an example of positive reinforcement.

there might be a commercial before the videos and the second video the deed of the house is given at .55 seconds

Theses two clips are from the same episode of two and a half men. Where Walden is trying to get the controlling interest in his company and manipulates Alan to make it work. the 1st clip is about the board casting a vote. 1) the target behavior is Alan siding with Walden and giving the car back 2) the consequence is being tackled 3) being tackled should decrees Alan siding with Walden 4) the consequence add the tackling 5) the antecedent is the bored vote this is positive punishment

A= board vote
B= Alan sides with Walden and gives back car
C= Alan gets tackled

1) the target behavior is Alan siding with Walden 2) the consequence is Alan getting his name on the dead of the house (second video) 3) getting his name on the house will increase Alan siding with Walden. 4) the consequence adds the gift of the house 5) the antecedent is the bored vote this is
positive reinforcement

A=board vote
B=Alan sides with Walden
C=Alan gets deed of house

I love How I Met Your Mother so I decided to surf for a good clip for this assignment. I Had a little trouble finding one but I remembered slapsgiving so decided it would work. If you have never seen HIMYM I am sorry but basicly the video is about how Barney bet Marshall one slap if he losses a bet which he did. In this clip Marshall is going to use the slap on Barney but decides not to. But in the end he does anyway lol. 1) Barney emits that them being together acomplished elicted slapsgivings purpuse so no slap is required. Target behavior=no slap 2) Barney not getting hurt. 3) Now that Marshall has not slapped Barney, it is reinforced that Marshall will be nice and not slap Barney in the future. 4) It requires the removal of a adversive slap. Or no adition of the slap, either way you look at it. 5) the antecedent is slapsgiving.

A= Slapsgiving
B= No slap
C= Less likely for future slap

Negative reinforcement is used in this portion of the clip.

Barney ends up getting slapped in the end, due in part to Lilli saying he can and Barney being a jerk afterwords. 1) The target behavior in this portion of the clip is Barney getting slapped or Marshall continueing to slap Barney (aka the SLAP is the target behavior). 2) The consequence of the behavior is Barney getting hurt/taught a lesson. 3) The consequence should decrease the bad behavior of Barney or more likely change his betting behavior. 4) The consequence includes the addition of a adversive stimuli (the slap) 5) The ancedent is still the case of the last one above, slapsgiving.

Please then list the ABC's of the behavior

A= Slapsgiving
B= Slap
C= Change Betting behavior

This is a example of postive punishment.

The setting is overtime for the wildcard NFL playoff game between the Steelers and Broncos. This clip entails the winning throw by Tim Tebow to allow the Broncos to proceed further in the playoffs.

1. The target behavior is the successful pass by Tebow that led to the Broncos win. This throw is reinforcing because Tebow emitted a desirable behavior that had a desirable consequence: a touchdown.

2. The consequence of throwing the pass for a touchdown was twofold: immediately it was that the Broncos won the football game. The other consequence is that Tebow probably insured that he will have a job for another year.

3. The consequence of throwing the touchdown in overtime is best put as insurance. Tim Tebow has been an issue of discussion all year, given that people have been skeptical of his abilities. Throwing a touchdown pass is one of the most desirable behaviors a quarterback can emit. Doing this will ensure that Tebow's coach will not fire him from the team, and Tebow will get what he desires, which is to continue to be a starter on a NFL team.

4. The consequence is adding something desirable. Adding a touchdown as the conclusion to the desired behavior will increase the likelihood of Tebow attempting to repeat that desired behavior.

5. The antecedent is overtime. Overtime is the context that sets the occasion for the game-winning throw.

A: In the context of overtime at the NFL wildcard game.

B: Tim Tebow threw a pass that resulted in a touchdown.

C: The Broncos won the football game and progressed further in the playoffs.

This is an example of positive reinforcement because winning the game is desirable, and increases the likelihood that Tebow will attempt the replicate the behavior.

This clip also illustrates punishment, in the context of the Steelers. This clip illustrates Tim Tebow throwing a pass to beat the steelers in overtime to win the NFL wildcard game.

1. The target behavior is effectively defending against the Broncos, in order to give the offense a chance to win.

2. The consequence of effectively defending is that it gives the Steelers a chance to win the game and keep chasing a coveted spot in the Super Bowl.

3. Had the Steelers effectively defended against the pass, it would result in something desirable, possibly winning. Winning is desirable and is usually a good enough of a reason to repeat the behavior of stopping the opponent's offense from scoring.

Terms:
4. From the context of the Steelers, this is punishment because the addition of the touchdown against them resulted in them losing their chance to try to get into the Super Bowl. This is the removal of something desirable, or the addition of something undesirable.

5. The antecedent of this clip is overtime at a NFL wildcard game, and the Broncos having the ball on offense.

A: In overtime of the NFL wildcard game, with the Steelers on defense.

B: The Steelers defense does not keep the Broncos from scoring.

C: The Steelers do not win, and do not go further into the playoffs.

This is positive punishment because there is the addition of something undesirable that will motivate the Steelers to attempt to not repeat their losing behavior.

Terms: target behavior, reinforcing, desirable behavior, desirable consequence, emit, antecedent, positive reinforcement, positive punishment.

This is a video of a pretty horrific car crash at a drag racing event.
1. The target behavior of the clip is racing the car to the finish line. 2. The consequence of the behavior is receiving cheers and praise from the crowd. 3. The consequence will increase the frequency of the target behavior because the driver likes the cheering and praise. 4. Consequence involves the addition of cheer and praise. 5. The antecedent is being at the track.

A: Race track
B: Drag racing
C: Cheer/praise

Positive reinforcement because it involves the addition of cheer and praise.

1.The target behavior is racing the car to the finish line. 2. The consequence of the behavior is losing control of the car and wrecking. 3. The consequence will decrease the frequency of the target behavior because the driver wrecked and lost the cheers of the crowd. 4. Consequence involves the removal of cheer and praise. 5. The antecedent is being at the track.

A: Race track
B: Wreck
C: Loss of cheer/praise

Negative Punishment because it involves the removal of cheer and praise.

The clip I found was from the movie “School of Rock”. In the movie, Jack Black impersonates being a substitute teacher in order to get money. This scene from the movie is his very first day at the school.

REINFORCEMENT (displayed at the very beginning of the clip)
1. The target behavior the teacher is trying to elicit is a kid giving food to their new teacher, Mr. S.
2. The consequence of the behavior is that Mr. S will be happy and praise the kid who gives him food
3. Kid’s like praise, especially from authority figures, so they will want to emit the behavior of giving him food in order to make their substitute happy
4. The consequence involved the addition of something – praise and happiness
5. The antecedent is a hung-over, hungry teacher searching for food

A – Hung-over, hungry teacher searching for food
B – Girl emits the behavior of giving Mr. S food
C – Girl gets praised and therefore reinforced for giving her substitute teacher her sandwich

This is positive reinforcement.

PUNISHMENT (displayed right after the reinforcement)
1. The target behavior Jack Black finds aversive and is trying to diminish is Freddie Jones back talking to him
2. The consequence of Freddie emitting the behavior of talking like a smart alec will get him reprimanded/yelled at
3. Kids find being yelled at aversive, and therefore Freddie Jones won’t want to continue to back talk to his teacher
4. The consequence involved the addition of something – being yelled at
5. The antecedent is Mr. S asking an inappropriate question

A – Mr. S asks what a hangover is to elicit an answer from the kids
B – Freddie Jones takes it too far, and emits a rude behavior of talking back to his teacher
C – Jack Black yells/scolds Freddie so he will “shut up”

This is positive punishment

In this clip, Joey is trying to learn to speak French so he can get a part in a movie. His resume says he is fluent so he goes to Pheobe for help. When Pheobe is finally fed up with trying to help Joey, he resorts to an audio learning system.

Punishment: (1:13-1:51)
The target behavior in this part of the clip is Joey trying to learn French. The consequence of this behavior would be that Pheobe gets irritated with trying to teach him, yells at him, and gives up. Pheobe yelling at him is likely to prevent him from asking for her help again. The consequence adds an aversive response from Pheobe. The antecedent of Joey's behavior is that he wants to learn French so he can acquire the job that he wants.

A - Joey wants a specific French-speaking part in an upcoming movie
B - Joey asks Pheobe to teach him how to speak French.
C - Joey does not listen, making Pheobe upset at which point Pheobe yells at him and gives up on teaching him any more.

This is a form of Positive Punishment

Reinforcement: (2:09-2:26)
The target behavior in this part of the clip is Joey, again, trying to learn French but this time by using an audio device to assist him. The consequence of the behavior is that Joey "learns" how to speak French. The consequence will increase the frequency of the behavior because the audio recording tells Joey he's doing a good job, therefore making him want to keep learning. The consequence adds a pleasant response to Joey's learning by praising him for his good work. The antecedent is that Joey wants to learn how to speak French for a part in a movie.

A - Joey wants a specific French-speaking part in an upcoming movie.
B - Joey uses an audio recording to help him learn to speak French.
C - Joey "learns" French from repeating after the recording.

This is a form of Positive Reinforcement.

(28 secs.) The First clip I emitted was from the show "Family Guy." The little boy meets this man at the market to collect merchandise for his father. He returns home and his father is proud of him for bringing the merchandise to him. In return the father rewards the boy with a bunny. 1.) The operant behavior I witnessed was the little boy delivering the merchandise to his father, in turn he gives his son a pet bunny. 2) The consequences are if the boy does bring back the merchandise on time he will keep getting rewarded. If he doesn't he will not receive rewards. 3.) These behaviors will increase because you are using the reward method. Making children want to emit more tasks to receive more rewards. 4.) This consequence involves adding something which in this case is a bunny. 5.) The antecedent is choosing to be at the store to pick up the merchandise at the correct time or to be late.

A-Meeting at the store to pick up the merchandise
B-Delievering it
C-Receive bunny

This is an example of positive reinforcement because they are adding a bunny to increase the frequency of the behavior.

(56secs) The second clip is right after my first one involves Peter, Lois and Chris. Peter and his son usually watch a particular show together. Lois storms in and tells chris tat he won't be watching the show with his father this time until he gets his grades up on his report card. 1.) The operant behavior that illustrates punishment in this video is lois not letting Chris watch TV until his grades have improved. 2.) The behavior is taking away Chris's ability to watch his favorite show with Peter. 3.) The behavior of receiving horrible grades will decrease, since he isn't able to watch TV (Loosing something that they enjoy). 4.) This consequence involves depriving something which in this case is the ability of watching TV. 5.) The antecedent is choosing to study or receive sufficient grades.

A-Studying hard
B-Get good grades
C- Watch TV

This is an example of negative reinforcement (punishment) because the parents are taking away the TV (something they value) until Chris receives better grades.

In this clip there is a group of guys pushing their friend on a swinging park bench, trying to be awesome he jumps off the swing and falls getting hit my the swing.
1) The target behavior in this clip is the boy on the swing is trying to entertain his friends.
2) The consequence of this behavior was that his friends laughed at him.
3) His behavior was reinforced by his friends laughter therefore most likely increasing the frequency of the behavior in the future.
4) This consequence involves the addition of his friends laughter.
5) The antecedent is a friendly mood in the park.

Please then list the ABC's of the behavior

A= Park swing
B= Swinging for entertainment
C=Making friends laugh.

This is an example of a Positive Reinforcement.

1) The second target behavior in this video is jumping off the swing
2) The consequence of this behavior was getting hit by the swing.
3) This consequence will mostly likely decrease the frequency of the behavior.
4) This consequence includes the addition of the hit from the swing.
5) the antecedent is swinging on the bench.

Please then list the ABC's of the behavior

A=Swinging on a bench
B= Jumping off the swing
C= Getting hit in the head by the swing.

This is an example of Positive Punishment.

In this clip, all the friends are talking about who gets to take care of Rachel and Ross's baby if they were to die. Rachel's sister is not on the list and she gets very upset. Rachel and her sister begin to fight over the situation and they break one of Monica's fancy plates.

Punishment: (3:30 in the video)
The target behavior is Rachel and her sister physically fighting. The consequence of their fighting is Chandler yelling at them because they broke a plate, and telling them it might be better if they left the apartment. The consequence is going to decrease the behavior because Rachel is great friends with Monica and Chandler and if she keeps fighting she will not be able to visit them at their apartment. It is going to remove the option of Rachel being able to visit her friends. The antecedent is giving responsibility of the baby in case of an accident.
A: Giving responsibility
B: Rachel physically fighting with her sister
C: Chandler threatens to kick them out of their apartment
This clip is negative punishment.

Reinforcement: (4:20 in the clip)
The target behavior is Chandler solving the fight responsibly. The consequence of the target behavior is Ross gives Chandler the opportunity to take care of his baby if an accident happens. The consequence is going to increae Chandlers behavior because he acted responsibly and is given the chance to take care of the baby, which is what he wanted. It is going to add something because it adds responsibility in Chandler's life and the option of being a parent to the baby. The antecedent is the two girls fighting.
A: Rachel and her sister physically fight
B: Chandler breaks up the fight responsibly and quickly
C: Chandler is given the opportunity to take care of the baby
This is positive reinforcement because Chandler emitted responsible behavior and it adds responsibility to his life.

This video is Lady Gaga’s music video for her hit song, “Marry The Night”. This video illustrates Lady Gaga dancing, singing, and emitting a variety of strange behaviors (as usual). The first part of the video is a narrative of Lady Gaga in a mental hospital. The following parts of the video explain to the viewer WHY Lady Gaga was in the mental hospital. Half-way through the video the song, “Marry The Night” starts.

PUNISHMENT:

1) The target behavior I am using is Lady Gaga putting a cigarette in her mouth (while laying in a hospital bed). This happens at 02:10 in the video.
2) The consequence of her behavior is when the nurse pulls the cigarette out of Lady Gaga’s mouth (in a scolding, aversive manner) and sets it on the bed tray.
3) This consequence will decrease the frequency of this behavior because if Lady Gaga continues to put a cigarette in her mouth she will continue to lose cigarettes to the nurse.
4) The consequence involves the removal of something: the cigarette.
5) The antecedent is Lady Gaga laying in a hospital bed.

A = Lady Gaga laying in a hospital bed.
B = Lady Gaga putting a cigarette in her mouth.
C = The nurse removing the cigarette from Lady Gaga’s mouth.

REINFORCEMENT:

1) The target behavior is when Lady Gaga puts the tape labeled “Marry The Night” into the tape player. This takes place around 08:35 in the video.
2) The consequence to this behavior is the song “Marry The Night” starts playing; the music starts playing.
3) This consequence will increase the frequency of the behavior because Lady Gaga was positively reinforced when the music started because that is what she wanted to hear. The music is desirable to Lady Gaga.
4) The consequence involved the addition of something: the sound of music.
5) The antecedent is Lady Gaga sitting-ish in her car.

A = Lady Gaga sitting-ish in her car.
B = Lady Gaga placing the tape labeled “Marry The Night” into the tape player.
C = The music starts playing.

This clip is from a scene from my favorite movie, Casablanca. In this particular scene, Ilsa is in Rick’s bar and finds Sam at the piano and decides to ask him to play her and Rick’s song. Sam puts up a fight as to why he shouldn’t play it but does anyway. Rick hears the song and after getting upset from hearing it he tells Sam to stop playing.

1) The target behavior to emit is Ilsa humming “As Time Goes By.”
2) When Ilsa elicits this behavior the consequence is that Sam will play the song on the piano.
3) Ilsa will then know that to increase the frequency of Sam playing that song on the piano, she will have to hum it out.
4) The consequence of this behavior is caused by the addition of the piano playing therefore it is a positive.
5) The antecedent in this case is Rick’s bar.

The ABC's of the behavior:
A= Rick’s Bar
B=
Ilsa humming “As Time Goes By”
C= Sam plays it on the piano

This is an example of positive reinforcement as Ilsa's humming is reinforced by the response of Sam playing the piano after she hums.

1) The target behavior to be punished when elicited is when Sam emits the behavior of playing the song “As Time Goes By” on the piano.
2) When Sam plays the song it the consequence is that Rick gets upset.
3) When Rick gets upset, Sam will decrease the frequency of playing the song as it is aversive.
4) This instance is a case in which the response of being upset is an addition, therefore a positive.
5) The antecedent in this situation is Rick’s Bar also.

The ABC's of the behavior:
A=
Rick’s Bar
B= Sam playing the song “As Time Goes By”
C= Rick gets upset

This is an example of Positive punishment as the response of being upset is an addition to punish the playing of the song.

In this clip, it shows a contestant on the show wipeout trying to pass a componant of the obstacle course.

Reinforcement:
1.) the target behavior is woman trying to be the first person to complete this part of the obstacle course and succeeding
2.)the conseuence is cheers when makes it to another "ball"
3.)People emitting the behavior of cheering her on makes her more likely ellicit her to emit the behavior of reaching the next ball, and being the first to complete it.
4.) the consequence involes the addition of peoples encouragement.
5.) the antecedent is a contestant on a game show.

A:a woman as a contestant of a game show "Wipeout"
B:the woman correctly jumps from ball to ball
C:people cheer her on and she will be the first to complete it.
this is an example of positive reinforcement

Punishment:
1.)the target behavior is the same woman trying to complete the next part of the obstacle course, and not doing it correctly
2.)the consequence is the woman falls down into the water.
3.)this consequence will make it less likely for the woman to make the same mistake again because it is aversive
4.)the consequence involes taking away something desirable, which is her chance on the game.
5.) the antecedent is a woman on a game show trying to complete an obstacle course.

A:woman is on gameshow wipeout on obstacle course
B:woman does obstacle incorrectly
C:woman falls down into the water and loses that part of the game show.
this is an example of negative punishment

Reinforcement

1. The behavior that Jenna is emitting is drinking caffeine from :57 to 1:21
2. The consequence of the behavior is staying awake (and going slightly crazy)
3. By keeping awake, after drinking a bunch of caffeine, when she wants to be able to stay awake, she will drink caffeinated drinks
4. The consequence involves the addition of caffeine
5. The antecedent is being tired
ABCs
A=Being tired
B=Drinking caffeine
C=Staying awake

Positive reinforcement

Punishment

1. The behavior that Jenna asks a weird question to someone on the internet at 1:37
2. The consequence of the behavior is someone on the internet wondering why she asked that question
3. By the person on the internet wondering why she asked the question, she won’t ask those kind of questions anymore
4. It involves the addition of a weird question
5. Being on the internet is eliciting the behavior of talking to someone

ABCs
A=Being on the internet
B=Saying something weird
C=Person thinking you’re nuts

This clip is of Cal vs. Stanford football game in 1981. Cal is down by 1 point with 4 seconds left when they receive the kickoff. Cal runs the kickoff all the way back for a touchdown to win the game and right as the Cal player scores he runs into a Stanford band member who had rushed the field to celebrate prematurely because they had thought Stanford won the game.

Reinforcement
1. The target behavior for the Cal football player was to score a touchdown.
2. The consequence of him scoring a touchdown is winning the game.
3. Winning the game will increase the frequency of him emitting a behavior to score touchdowns because he receives praise.
4. The consequence involves the addition of celebration.
5. Than antecedent is being at the football game

ABC
A - Being at the football game
B - Scoring a touchdown
C - Won the game and celebration
This is an example of Positive reinforcement

Punishment
1. The target behavior for the Stanford Band member was to celebrate the win by rushing onto the field.
2. The consequence of rushing onto the field was getting trampled by the Cal player who scored the touchdown.
3. Getting trampled will decrease the frequency of the Band member emitting that behavior.
4. The consequence involves the addition of pain and embarssement
5. The antecedent is being at the football game.

ABC
A - Being at the football game.
B - Rushed onto the field
C - Trampled by the Cal football player.

This is an example of positive punishment.

This video is part of a series of blog-style videos that this user makes every week. This particular video is about how every group of friends has that one person that always makes a situation uncomfortable with their awkwardness.

Reinforcement:
*The whole video
1) The target behavior is learning how to act in social situations, whether it's with your friends or with people that you have just met.
2) The consequence of the behavior is being a person that everyone wants to be around.
3) This consequence will increase the frequency of the behavior because people will want to be more likeable.
4) This consequence involves the addition of something: being more liked by other people.
5) The antecedent is wanting to know how to become a more likeable person.

A = wanting to become a more likeable person
B = watching the video
C = knowing how to not be an awkward person

Punishment:
*This part occurs at about :47 in the video
1) The target behavior is not laughing at your own joke.
2) The consequence of the behavior is your friend emitting a dirty look from you laughing too much. The person will then experience deprivation by not receiving the consequence he wants.
3) This consequence will decrease the frequency of the behavior because the person doesn't want that consequence to occur.
4) This consequence involves the addition of a dirty look to the behavior.
5) The antecedent is telling a non-funny joke and laughing too hard at it.

A = telling a non-funny joke
B = laughing too hard at your own joke
C = getting a dirty look from friends

Terms: antecedent, behavior, consequence, deprivation, emitting, frequency, punishment, reinforcement, target behavior

The video that I chose to use for this assignment contained several different commercials for various products. The part of this video that showed reinforcement was during the Coca Cola commercial where the boy puts money into the pop machine and receives the type of pop that he wanted. This happens at about :20. All of the clips in this video happened to be establishing operations as well because it changed the value of the reinforcer and makes consumers want to go out and purchase the product.

1.) The target behavior that is being reinforced in this video is pushing the button on the pop machine. The button elicited a pushing behavior and when the young boy emitted that behavior he was reinforced by receiving a can of pop.
2.) The consequence of the target behavior is that the boy receives the pop of his choice.
3.) This consequence will increase the frequency of the target behavior because after pushing the button the boy receives a pop so he can drink this and will no longer be thirsty. In the future when the boy is thirsty he will be likely to emit this behavior again. This reinforcer would be even more effective if there had been any type of drink deprivation prior to the target behavior occurring.
4.) This consequence involves the addition of a can of pop.
5.) The antecedent is being thirsty while walking.

A.) Being thirsty while walking
B.) Push button on the pop machine
C.) Receive can of pop

This is an example of positive reinforcement because a can of pop is added to the situation. This addition of something increases the likelihood that the target behavior will happen again in the future.

The part of the video where punishment is shown is during a commercial about salmon. A man jumps on a bear’s back and in return is slapped by the bear. In the end the man does succeed and ends up getting the tuna that he came after, however I am just going to concentrate on a small part of the clip where punishment is shown. This occurs at about 4:00 into the video.

1.) The target behavior being punished in the clip is kicking a bear.
2.)The consequence is that the man is slapped by the bear. When the bear was kicked, his response was to slap the man back. Since this consequence is aversive, it is a punishment.
3.) This consequence will decrease the frequency of the target behavior because the consequence led to the man being in pain. No one likes to be in pain, so in the future this man will avoid the behavior because he does not want to endure any more pain.
4.) The consequence involves the addition of pain.
5.) The antecedent is being by a river bank.

A.) At a river bank.
B.) Kicking a bear.
C.) Get slapped by the bear.

This is an example of positive punishment because something is being added to the situation. Pain is added to decrease the frequency of the target behavior happening again in the future.

For this assignment, I used the first half of the first of episode a show called Fullmetal Alchemist. This clip shows a teaser of some of the history of the two main characters and then shows their arrival at a desert town.
I will start with the punishment part of the video.
1)The two boys try to bring their mother back from the dead.
2) Edward loses his leg and arm and Al loses his entire body.
3) This consequence decreases the likelihood they will try to revive their dead mother in the future.
4) This punishment involves the removal of their bodies.
5) The antecedent is their mother dying.
A= Edward and Al's mother dies, eliciting a grief response from the two boys.
B= Edward and Al try to revive their dead mother with alchemy.
C= Edward loses his arm and leg and Al loses his entire body.
This is an example of negative punishment.

This occurs at minute two of the video.

Now for the reinforcement part of the video.
1) The target behavior is Edward and Al emitting an accompanying behavior towards Ruby.
2)The consequence of this behavior is Edward and Al will receive access to a place to sleep for the night.
3) This is an pleasurable stimulus so it will increase the likelihood Al and Edward will accompany Ruby.
4) This consequence involves the addition of a place to sleep.
5) Ruby elicits the accompanying response of Al and Edward by inviting them to the worship services.
A= Ruby invites Al and Edward to the service
B= Edward and Al accompany her to the service.
C= Edward and Al receive a place to sleep.
This is an example of positive reinforcement.
This part of the clip begins at minute nine.

Terms: antecedent, target behavior, elicit, emit, consequence, response, pleasurable stimulus.

This clip is from the movie Parenthood which was very popular back in 1989 which happens to be the year that I was born! The clip describes a father teaching his incredibly smart daughter karate.
1.)The target behavior in this clip is punching.
2.)The consequence is being told “good job”.
3.)The consequence will increase the behavior by hearing praise the little girl will want to do it again.
4.)The consequence involves the addition of something therefor making it positive reinforcement.
5.)The antecedent of this clip is being in the yard.
A= Being in the yard.
B= Punching.
C= Being told “good job”.
This clip emitted positive reinforcement.

1.)The target behavior in this clip is punching.
2.)The consequence is the father being punched.
3.)The consequence will decrease the behavior by the girl was given a dirty look.
4.)The consequence involves the addition of something therefor making it positive punishment.
5.)The antecedent of this clip is also being in the yard.
A= Being in the yard.
B= Punching.
C= Girl was given a dirty look.
This is an example of positive punishment.

This video is from the episode of the Big Bang theory where Sheldon and Penny go for a jog. After Sheldon emits the behavior of knocking on Pennys door she comes out to warm up in the hallway. The upcoming jog elicits the stretching behavior and they emit the behavior of touching their toes. However, after discovering that Sheldon cannot do the stretches they decide to do warm ups as they jog. They start down the stairs and Sheldon falls.

The target behavior is warming up by stretching to touch their toes. The consequence of this behavior is so that they don’t pull something while running. The consequence of not pulling a muscle while they run will increase the frequency that they stretch by touching their toes. This is a form of positive reinforcement because they are adding the reinforcer of stretched out muscles. The antecedent is that Penny and Sheldon decide to stretch their muscles by touching their toes before going for a jog.

A: Decide to stretch before going for a jog
B: Stretching to touch their toes
C: Not pulling a muscle while jogging

Terms used: emits, behavior, elicit, target behavior, consequence, positive reinforcement, reinforce, antecedent

The second part of the video has the target behavior of Sheldon running down the stairs after they decide to warm up on the run. The consequence of Sheldon running down the stairs is that he falls down and then farts. This aversive outcome of falling down the stairs and farting in front of Penny will decrease the likelihood that he will emit the behavior of running down the stairs. This is a form of positive punishment because pain is the added stimulus. The antecedent of the target behavior is that Penny and Sheldon decide to warm up on the run

A: Decide to warm up on the run
B: Sheldon runs down the stairs
C: Sheldon falls down the stairs and farts

Terms used: target behavior, consequence, aversive, emit, positive punishment

The clip I choose to use is perhaps one of the most famous scenes from the TV series “Friends” and one of my favorites. In this clip, the operant behavior is Monica’s desire to make Chandler happy. Monica hopes to elicit a laughing response from him.
1. The target behavior is Chandler laughing.
2. The consequence of the behavior is Chandler emitting a laughing behavior and telling her he loves her.
3. By admitting his feelings for her, Chandler has made Monica feel very happy and special.
4. The consequence is Chandler and Monica growing closer in their relationship.
5. The antecedent is Chandler is upset.
A-Chandler is upset
B-Monica puts a turkey on her head.
C-Chandler says he loves her.
This is positive reinforcement.
The second part of the clip starts at 1:10 and is Joey getting scared. Although scaring Joey is even more reinforcement for Monica to wear a turkey on her head, it is punishment for Joey coming home.
1. Joey’s target behavior is entering his apartment.
2. The consequence of that behavior, in this case is him being scared silly.
3. The consequence of this behavior is Joey being afraid and worrying about what’s in his apartment every Thanksgiving.
4. The consequence involves the addition of a person with a turkey on their head.
5. The antecedent is Joey coming home.
A-Joey is coming home
B-Monica just happens to have a turkey on her head.
C-Joey gets very scared.
This is an example of punishment.

The clip I chose to use was a clip from the office. It is Dwight accusing Jim of making up some crazy illnesses when they are going over their health care plan. Jim then takes Dwight's keys and then locks him in the room so he cant get out. He then talks on the phone with Pam and completely ignores Dwight's yelling and screaming about letting him out.
1. The target behavior is Jim locking Dwight in the conference room.
2.the consequence of this behavior is Jim doesnt have to listen to Dwight ask him about the health care plan.
3. The consequence will increase Jims frequency of locking Dwight in a room when he is annoying him
4. the consequence of the behavior removes something negavtive so it would be negative reinforcement.
the antecedent is Dwight accusing Jim of making up diseases to be covered by the health care plan.
A talking about the health care plan in the conference room
B Jim locking Dwight in the conference riin
C Jim doesnt have to listen to Dwight
this is an example of negative reinforcement

1. the target behavior is Dwight accusing Jim of making up diseases for the health care plan.
2. the consequence of this behavior is being locked in the conference room by jim
3. The consquence will decrease Dwights behavior of accusing Jim of making up diseases
4. The consequence adds something, adding the

Begin watching this clip at 30 seconds!

This clip is from the feature film, "Mean Girls". The four girls are performing to the song, "Jingle Bell Rock" at their school's talent show. Their c.d. player stops working and have no music to dance to, so Lindsey Lohan starts singing it herself so that the girls can finish their routine! The first response that the audience elicits is stern looks and awkward silence and the second response given by the audience is cheering and applause!

Reinforcement Part of my Clip:
1.) The Target Behavior- the target behavior in this video clip is successfully completing their dance routine.
2.) The Consequence of This Behavior- the consequence of successfully completing their dance routine is applause and cheering from the audience!
3.) How Will This Consequence Influence The Frequency of The Behavior? - when the audience cheers and applauds the girls, it will increase the frequency of the girls performing abilities. The girls will increase the frequency of performing and they will want to do well to get the cheering and applauds!
4.) Does the Consequence Include the Removal or Adding a Stimulus? - the consequence includes the addition of a stimulus and that stimulus is the cheering and applauding of the audience!
5.) What is the Antecedent? - the antecedent in my example is at the school's talent show.

ABC's of Behavior
Antecedent= at the school's talent show.
Behavior= successfully performing their routine.
Consequence= cheering and applause from the audience.

This is an example of positive reinforcement because the stimulus of cheering and applause is being added to increase the frequency of the behavior.

Punishment Part of my Clip:
1.)The Target Behavior- the target behavior is the same as the first part of the clip, successfully completing their performance. Unfortunately, the c.d. player stops working and their performance stops and their performance is unsuccessfully completed.
2.)The Consequence of the Behavior- once again the consequence of the behavior should be the same as the first part of the clip, in the audience should emit applause and cheering. But unfortunately, since the c.d. player stopped working and their performance stopped the girls encountered awkward silence and stern glares from the audience.
3.)How Will The Consequence Influence the Frequency of The Behavior? - after the girls received the stern glares and awkward silence from the audience,this will decrease the frequency of the behavior of performing because they don't want to be embarrassed in front of a lot of people. Fortunately, Lindsey started singing their song to complete their performance.
4.) Does This Consequence Include Adding or Subtracting a Stimulus? - the consequence of awkward silence and stern looks will decrease the frequency of the behavior, so adding these things is adding a stimulus(s).
5.) What is the Antecedent? - the antecedent in this part of the clip is the same as the first part of the clip, and that is at the school's talent show.

ABC's of Behavior
Antecedent= at the school play.
Behavior= unsuccessfully completing their performance.
Consequence= stern looks and awkward silences.

This is an example of positive punishment because a stimulus(s) is added, which is the stern looks and awkward silence from the audience and it is a punishment because the frequency of the behavior (unsuccessfully completing their performance) will decrease due to fear of embarrassment.

Terminology Used in My Assignment: Emit, Elicit, Antecedent, Behavior, Target Behavior, Consequence, Stimulus, Punishment, Reinforcement, Positive, Negative, Response.

In this video Peter emits the behavior of going to Carter to borrow some money.

The target behavior that illustrates the reinforced behavior is peter borrowing some money from Carter.

The consequence of Peter borrowing money from Carter is digging into a jar filled with salt and barbwire and the money at the bottom.

The consequence will increase the frequency of Peter looking to borrow money from somebody else to avoid the aversive consequence of borrowing from carter.

The consequence involves adding a jar filled with salt barbwire and money.

The antecedent is Peter needing to borrow money.

A= Peter needing money.
B= Peter borrowing money from Carter.
C= Digging to the bottom of the jar to get the money.

This is negative reinforcement

The target behavior is Peter needing to borrow money from Carter.

The consequence is Peter has to go through the aversive punishment and pain of digging to the bottom of the jar to get the money from Carter.

The consequence will decrease the likelihood of Peter borrowing money from Carter again when he needs to borrow money.

The consequence involves adding the jar filled with salt, barbwire, and money.

The antecedent is Peter going to Carter for money.

A= Peter borrowing money from Carter
B= Peter has to dig to the bottom of the jar.
C= Peter goes through a lot of pain in the process of getting the money.

This is negative punishment

Terms used- Aversive, emit, target behavior, reinforce, consequence, antecedent, and punishment.

This is a clip from fox's hit show, Family Guy. In this clip we see Stewie and Brian sitting at a computer desk and Brian is showing Stewie a video clip.

1)The target behavior emitted is Brian showing Stewie a clip of the viral video "two girls one cup".
2) The consequence of the behavior is that Stewie is disgusted which elicits Brian's laughter
3)Stewie's reaction to the video funny and Brian's amusement will reinforce Brian showing Stewie a gross video clip and increase the likelihood of repeat behavior.
4) The consequence involves the addition of Stewie's reaction which causes Brian's amusement.
5)The antecedent is at a computer in the Griffin Household, watching a highly disgusting video clip online.
A=Sitting at a computer desk in the Griffin household
B=Watching a disgusting video clip online
C=Brian laughs at Stewie's reaction

This is an example of positive reinforcement for Brian.

1)The target behavior emitted is Brian showing Stewie a clip of the viral video "two girls one cup".
2)The consequence of the behavior is that Stewie becomes disgusted while Brian laughs.
3)Stewie is disgusted by the video. His disgust will positively punish the behavior of watching a clip Brian tries to show him, decreasing the likelihood of future clip watching.
4)The consequence involves the addition of Stewie's disgusted reaction to the video clip.
5)The antecedent is at a computer in the Griffin Household, watching a highly disgusting video clip online.
A=Sitting at a computer desk in the Griffin household
B=Watching a disgusting video clip online
C=Stewie is disgusted by the video clip

This is an example of positive punishment.

Although this clip involves the same antecedent and behavior, the consequences of the behavior cause punishment for one and reinforcement for another.

This is a scene from the gridiron gang in which some of the players think they are "man enough" to not wear a cup.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=9uD8u9yPOxw

1) The target behavior would be to wear a cup when playing football. 2)The consequence of the behavior would be not getting your " biscuits broke", which reinforces wearing the nut cup. 3)By not getting their biscuits broken it will increase the frequency of the players wearing their cups, which elicits them to not worry about protecting themselves. 4)The consequence adds the addition of the cup, but it also takes away the possibility of getting their biscuits broken. The antecedent is on the football field.
A= On the football field playing football
B= Wearing a nut cup
C= Not getting your biscuits broken
- this is an example of both positive and negative reinforcement because your adding the cup which is a positive reinforcement but your taking away the pain from not wearing a cup which is negative reinforcement.

For Punishment I used the exact same clip, but just looked at in with a different view.
1. The target behavior would be players trying to be tough and not wear a cup. 2)The consequence of the emitted behavior would be getting hit in the biscuits, which would reinforce wearing a nut cup. 3)The consequence of getting hit in the biscuits would be feeling pain, which would be aversive to the player causing them to wear a cup next time. 4)The consequence would add the ball or some way of getting hit in the biscuits which would cause pain. 5)The antecedent is on the football field.
A=On the football field
B=Not wearing a nut cup
C=Getting your biscuits broke.
-This is an example of positive punishment because your adding pain to make the player protect his biscuits.

So the clip I'm using is from Tim and Eric. Their friend Zach comes over to have a drink of absolute vodka. They're all enjoying their time having a drink when Zach freaks out about how Tim and Eric freaks about them joking about the hot tub being too hot. If you haven't checked out Tim and Eric please do.
So for the first part of the clip, the pouring and offering of the absolut vodka by Zach is the target behavior. The consequence is the praise that Tim and Eric give to Zach. The praise reinforces the behavior emitted by Zach. The positive feeling elicited by the praise is added. Positive Reinforcement.

A: At Tim and Erics House
B: Offering and pouring of Absolut Vodka
C: Praise by Tim and Eric

The second part of the clip features the punishment. Tim and Eric start making jokes about how hot Zachs hot tub is. As a response, Zach starts yelling at them about the temperature of the Hot tub. This adds a negative feeling and subtracts the positive feeling that was felt by all parties. The target behavior of the punishment is the joking by Tim and Eric. The yelling elicits a negative feeling helping to reduce the frequency of the Joking behavior. Negative Punishment.

A: At Tim and Erics house and the hot tub is too hot
B: Joking about the temperature
C: Zach yelling at Tim and Eric

This Simpsons clip features a creature known as the screamapillar. It is very irritating to the family, but they are legally obligated to protect it as it is an endangered species.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk3TwgZ7IQQ&feature=related

1. The reinforced behavior is Marge's response to the screams over the baby monitor, she uses an eye dropper to give it water.
2. The consequence is that the screamapillar goes quiet for a moment.
3. This will increase Marge's water bringing behavior as it will result in a moment of peace and quiet for her and the family.
4. The consequence involves the removal of the constant screaming.
5. The antecedent is the creature's screams.

A. Screamapillar starts screaming
B. Marge gets it some water
C. The screaming stops for a moment

This is an example of negative reinforcement.

The next scene features punishment. Homer is about to stomp on the screamapillar but he is lectured at by an environmental agent. The result is that homer does not stomp the screamapillar.

1. The punished behavior in this clip is homer's stomping on the screamapillar, he is yelled at by the environmental agent.
2. The consequence of this is that Homer makes no further attempts to stomp it.
3. This will prevent Homer from trying to kill the screamapillar in the future for fear of legal repercussion.
4. The consequence involves the addition of the agents speech.
5. The antecedent is the screamapillar shouting annoyingly.

A. The screamapillar shouts annoyingly
B. Homer raises his foot to stomp the screamapillar
C. The environmental agent lectures Homer

This is an example of positive punishment.

Reinforcement
1) The target behavior to be emitted is the act of answering the phone.
2) The consequence of answering the phone is to see who is calling you and having verbal interaction with that person.
3) It is enjoyable to talk to somebody if they had the interest to call you. So this would elicit the behavior to be repeated.
4) There is an addition of a conversation with a person calling you.
5) The antecedent is having your phone ring.

A- Your phone rings.
B- Answering your phone when it rings.
C- Having a conversation with someone who wants to talk to you.
*This is an example of Positive Reinforcement.

Punishment
1) The target behavior elicited is to not answer your phone in class.
2) The consequence of the behavior of answering the phone in class is the teacher smashing the phone.
3) Having your phone broken is unpleasant and will decrease the behavior of answering the phone during class.
4) The consequence involves the subtraction of the phone that was answered during class.

Francine hopes to reinforce a new behavior in him that involves him NOT scaring her constantly and he will be reinforced becayse he has a happy wife.
C= Francine gets her revenge and becomes happy cuz he stops scaring her
This is an example of Negative punishment because he is losing the fun he was having when scaring francine
As for the punishment, stan will no longer be able to scare francine so he is losing the behavior of scaring her. the consequence of this behavior is that stan would be losing something he enjoys to do because francine is always scaring him worse. the consequence involves adding something, because were adding francine scaring him.
A= francine grows tired of stan always scaring her
B=stan continues scaring her anyway
C=francine avenges stan and he then has "less" entertainment

Specifically I highlight this part of the clip: 1:40-3:00

This is a clip from the film: Gandhi. It starts with Gandhi speaking to a forum of people. He is urging his fellow men to stand up and fight with peaceful resistance. The reinforced behavior is peaceful resistance.

1) The clip that I highlight entails a showdown between Gandhi and his men, and imperial soldiers on horses. Instead of emitting a standing up with weapons to fight behavior, Gandhi urges his men to emit a nonviolent behavior. The behavior I am targeting is the peaceful resistance, the part where all of the men fall to the ground and cover their heads.

2) The consequence of this behavior is to elicit the soldiers to desist violent abuse towards the men.

3) Because few of Gandhi's men were harmed in this interaction, the nonviolent behavior has been reinforced: something desirable occurred to the behavior.

4) This behavior is twofold. It removes violent behaviors which stimulate violent reactions from their oppressors, and it is adding a new behavior. They are adding nonviolent behaviors to replace violent ones.

5) The antecedent is British violence and oppression of Indian citizens.

A=In the context of british oppression, Gandhi urges his men to emit nonviolent behaviors.

B= The behavior emitted by the men is to lay down on the ground in response to violence.

C= The English soldiers retreat.

This is positive reinforcement because the addition of the laying down behavior elicited a desirable consequence, the retreat of the English.

1) The behavior being punished in this clip, 1:40-3:00, is violence towards Indian citizens. The behavior emitted is laying on the ground.

2) The consequence of the behavior is a retreating behavior on the English part.

3) Retreating will reinforce nonviolent behaviors on the part of India, and punish violent behaviors of the English.

4) The consequence of retreating will increase nonviolent behaviors and decrease violent behaviors.

5) The antecedent is oppression in India by the English.

A=In the context of oppression in India, English soldiers are being violent towards Indian citizens. Indian citizens act nonviolently towards the English soldiers.

B=The English retreat from the Indian citizens when the citizens lay down on the ground in reaction to English violence.

C=The nonviolent behavior is reinforced and the violent behavior is punished.

This is positive punishment because the addition of nonviolent behavior decreases the undesirable behavior of violence.

Reinforcement

This is a clip of a toddler that is encouraged to dance by his parents and later falls.

1) Target Behavior- To get the toddler to emit the behavior of dancing.
2) Consequence- Parents laugh.
3) Increases likely of behavior occurring again because the toddler is encouraged to keep dancing on the couch because the parent elicit the behavior of dancing towards the toddler.
4) The consequence involves to increase of praise and laughing to encourage the toddler.
5)Antecedent-Toddler listening to music.

Please then list the ABC's of the behavior

A=Music is playing.
B=Toddler dances.
C=Parents laugh and praise.

Positive reinforcement.

Punishment

1) Target behavior- To continue to get the toddler to emit the behavior of dancing.
2) Consequence- Falling off the couch.
3) This is likely to decrease the behavior because the toddler is startled by the fall.
