Pick a behavior of yours that you are interested in further examining using a functional analysis of behavior.
Using what you have read in this week's section 5.3 give a shot at doing a functional analysis of that behavior and report your findings.

Make sure to use your behavior speak and to use the terms that you have learned in the section.

Let me know if you have any questions.

After reading section 5.3, please respond to the following questions:

Section 5.3 discusses the functional analysis of behavior. What do you think you will remember mostly about the section? Why? If you were to do a functional analysis of a behavior of yours what would it be? Why?

After reading BOTH SECTIONS what information did you find that may have added to what you already knew about behavior modification?

PLEASE BRING YOUR READING EXERCISES FOR SECTIONS 5.2 AND 5.3 TO CLASS WITH YOU ON TUESDAY (like we used to do before October).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Boot Camp Abuse

This is a very upsetting and aversive video. It really isn't clear what their larger goal is, however the adults are all yelling at the boy at once. Apparently they want him to tell someone present that he loves them. How does this relate to what we have been learning in class about behavior modification? For example is this punishment or reinforcement?

"In the video above, McFarland and other instructors scream and yell at what looks like a pre-teen boy as he is forced to hold a heavy car tire. The boy is brought to his knees as he cries and is terrorized by the adults around him."

Topical Blog Week #10 (due Thursday)

What I would like you to do is to implement your self directed behavioral program that you outlined last week (if you have already started that is OK). As you start the program you might find that you need to make small modifications. Perhaps in your goal, or your target behaviors, or maybe your reinforcer. Perhaps your program is based on reducing a behavior, you might find a better way to reinforce a different behavior (DRO) rather than punishing an unwanted behavior.

For this assignment please blog a post telling us how things are going and if you are going to change anything and why.

Either way start recording and graphing your behaviors - continue doing this for this week and the next. Please bring in your graphs and records of your behaviors next Tuesday (week #11) when we meet in class.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.

On page two of this newsletter the on TRRC program is explained. What is this program? How did it come about? What are the behavioral classes they are trying to elicit? What would be some specific target behaviors they might want the children to emit? Is this system based on reinforcement or punishment? Is it positive or negative? What are the tokens used in this program? What might be some pro's and con's associated with using these tokens? What is the delivery system? What are some pro's and con's associated with the delivery system? How are the tokens banked? What are the pro's and con's? What are the back up reinforcers? How were the backup reinforcers chosen? Are they effective reinforcers? How do the students gain access to the reinforcers? What are some of the outcome measures so the administrators know the system is effective? How effectively are the administrators teaching the students about the system? How effectively are the administrators teaching the parents about the system? How effectively have the administrators taught the other teacher about the system? Is there the possibility of not everyone (students, teachers, and parents) may not have complete buy in with the system? What are some problems know to exist with token economies that might be a problem here? What are some questions you might have for the administrators about the system? What additional information might you want to know about the system?

Topical Blog Week #8 (due Thursday)

What I would like you to do is to find a topic from ANYTHING WE HAVE COVERED SO FAR IN CLASS that you are interested in and search the internet for material on that topic. You might, for example, find people who are doing research on the topic, you might find web pages that discuss the topic, you might find youtube clips that demonstrate something related to the topic, etc. What you find and use is pretty much up to you at this point. But use at least 3 sources.

Once you have completed your search and explorations, I would like you to say what your topic is, how exactly it fits into the chapter, and why you are interested in it. Next, I would like you to take the information you found related to your topic, integrate/synthesize it, and then write about it. At the end, please include working URLs for the three websites AND state below each URL how that particular site contributed to what you wrote.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
