Are you curious about what is happening in Egypt right now?

http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

Can we explain what is happening using the ABCs?

What kind of antecedents might be in play for crowd control?

Are there any discriminitive stimuli present that might influce the behavior od the crowd?

You can explain SOOO many things happening here with the ABC's.
A: Unrest with current government in Egypt
B: People come to protest, stand, chant "illegetimate" in Tahrir Square
C: Army moved in to oversee crowds

A: Unrest with current government in Egypt
B: People come to protest; stand, chant "illegetimate" in Tahrir square
C: President Mubaraks steps aside as president
or
A: Large protest against Egypt president
B: Many countries including the U.S. ask president Mubarak to make an "orderly transition of gov't because he promised too.
C: He does step aside
or
A: Protesters and other countries demand the president step aside
B: Leaders in Egypts government remove him from his office
C: Egyptian leaders gain free elections.
or
A: Mark Zuckerberg wants to impress a girl
B: Mark Zuckerber creates facebook
C: Facebook(along with Twitter)is used to communicate demands and progress of protesters in Egypt.
There are SOO many.
The army that is overseeing the crowds is an antecedent and definately a discriminative Stimuli. The army is definately regulating the crowds behavior and making it less likely that specific behaviors will be emitted, like violence.

This situation is very unfortunate for the Egyptians. Hopefully one day they will have the resources and knowledge to do what is right for their people.

ABC's:
A.People protest against Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak
B. US Envoy tells him to step down and let new government to evolve
C. He steps down as asked

What kind of antecedents might be in play for crowd control?
--The Army being there for crowd control, the police who clashed with crowd on Jan. 25th(fired tear gas and wate cannons against the people,
trigger the crowd:being unhappy with their curren president

Are there any discriminitive stimuli present that might influce the behavior od the crowd?
--The Army being there to make sure the protesters don't get out of control and the army personel is not engaging in any discussions or being part of the protest.

Thanks for sharing this Dr. Maclin. This was really cool to watch and see what is going on there. Peaceful with so many ppl? wow! Violence in the streets.

The whole situation is very unfortunate for the egyptian people and for those that were just visiting while crisis struck and are still in the middle of the crisis. There are many ways we can relate this situation to the ABC's of behavior. Egypt needs a real democracy not a faux democracy as Hillary Clinton says. The people are fighting for the rights they were attained. In this situation, the antecedent would be the goverment trying to get rid of democracy, the behavior is the people protesting and the consequence is the people being beaten, shot, and nearly overcome by the government.
Antecedents for crowd control may consist of the U.S intervening to let the people know we support them. The consequence that have so far stemmed from the protesting may cause some to stay at home instead of leaving again, which would be considered more of a punishment.
Again Both Armies may also serve as a discriminate stimuli whether it was the U.S army in support of the egyptian people or the egyptian army fighting against them, because the people will notice the guns, which are seen as overpowering and probably cause them to back down.

This was very interesting and it really does give an eye opener to many who do not pay attention to the news nor what is going on in other countries! Thank you

This middle east unrest is spreading fast... Egypt was just the start. If you pay attention to any news coverage you'll see many countries in the middle east taking after Egypt after there successful protest against their government. A. a desire to eliminate oppression caused by the governments, B. Active protests with large numbers of people, C. old government is replaced with new (perhaps a less oppressive)government... time will tell

Whats going on in Egypt right now is very interesting. I hope it gets resolved soon though because I would really like to visit Egypt someday. A would be oppression in Egypt by government. B would be protesting and C would be new government and many other consequences.
