Our Behavioral Story

Recall in class that we were making stories based on behavioral terms. Recall that Marshall started a story, then he called an Matt to provide the next sentence and then Matt called on Cort...

What I would like to do here is to start a story thread using behavioral terms. I'll start it and the next person to read this post can add the next sentence, and so forth. If you are not clear what we are doing here just wait and watch to see what the others are doing and then jump in.

This is required of you to do (sorry if you don't group activities) but is should be fun. Be as creative as you like (but clean - you know what I mean : -).

My alarm clock emitted an ringing noise which elicited a behavior of getting up in the morning of which I then emitted.

(now the next person needs to add on a sentence to the story using at least one behavioral term - but the more terms the better)

... of which I then emitted a toothbrushing behavior. Little did I know, my roommate put hot sauce in my toothpaste as a punsiher for my aversive music playing behavior!

Adding the hot sauce is an example of a positive punishment because my roommate wanted to decrease my level of loud music playing by adding hot sauce into my toothpaste container.

This positive punishment elicited a yelling behavior which I then emitted, quite loudly.

In order to punish my roommate for making my tooth brushing experience aversive, I cranked up my music which in turn, elicited him to emit a behavior similar to a childish fit.

To gain forgiveness from my roommate I made her chocolate chip cookies as a form of positive reinforcement.

After emitting his childish fit behavior, I decided to punish him further by hiding his favorite CD.

I decided to give him his CD back as a positive reinforcement for not throwing another childish fit this week.

after giving him his CD back he emitted such an over-joyous scream in response that i couldn't help but be punished rather than reinforced for my good deed. it seemed he had been under deprivation the entire week, which lead to the CD eliciting a far greater (and more unnecessary) response. moving on..

Moving on... my roommate emitted a thankful behavior by leaving a gift card to my favorite restaurant on my desk that I found when I returned, frustrated, from my psychological statistics class. I was frustrated because I was positively punished by being called out in class after asking a question about the material, making me not want to emit a learning behavior again in stats.

Upon receiving the gift card, I emitted a behavior of joy. My room mate elicited a behavior in me that was exactly what I needed. Because of this, I emitted a behavior of hugging her.

Little did I know, emitting this type of behavior is extremely aversive for my roommate. When I was positively punished with a shove, she elicited me to take back the invite I gave her to join me for dinner.

After negatively punishing her by revoking my invitation to dinner she emitted a guilty behavior which caused her to apologize for which I positively reinforced her by bringing her left overs from dinner.

Upon returning from my dinner, too full and too tired, I threw myself into my bed for a nap before going out. My roommate had strategically placed a number of thumbtacks in my bed, eliciting a scream so shrill and aversive, and so vulgar in content that my roommate emitted a call to be moved to a new room, as we are clearly polar opposites. I hate that roommate. Who puts tacks in the bed? I brought leftovers back for him and suffered through the childish fits and that is how I am to be repaid? I'll emit a boot kicking behavior.

After emitting the boot kicking behavior I was positively reinforced by receiving a roommate whom I got along with great the rest of the year. Thank goodness I emitted the negative behavior!

Unfortunately a week down the road I found out that my boot kicking behavior elicited my former roommate's parents to emit a lawsuit filing behavior in small claims court for $5k for the aversive behavior i emitted toward their child. They claimed that my boot kicking behavior had caused him psychological distress.

The $5k was a negative punishment toward me because it was taking away my $5k (and my pride) and doing it in order to decrease my elicting of kicking behavior. After I was punished I began counseling where I emitted an obnoxious screaming behavior whenever my counselor talked. This was meant to be positive punishment for his talking. I was adding screaming in order to decrease his talking at me.

My counselor decided the the most obvious targeted behavior that needed to be controlled was the obnoxious screaming that was emitted whenever the counselor began to talk. My counselors idea of intervention was to positively punish me after i began to make the screaming sound by blowing an air-horn which hurt my ears and made me stop screaming. over time my counselor had hope that because the sound was negative it would decrease my obnoxious screaming during our sessions.

The air horn was an use of intense punishment, after awile, she got to lazy and wasn't consitant with the punishment, so I went back to making sreaming sounds.

Since the punishment for my emitted screaming behavior was not consistent, my couselor elicited that instead of talking we would emit writing to eachother in order to emit a conversation.

Since the punishment for my emitted screaming behavior was not consistent, my couselor elicited that instead of talking we would emit writing to eachother in order to emit a conversation.

Now that our behaviors are at a consensus, my counselor now reinforces me with a piece of chocolate each time I emit the desired behavior. Little did she know, chocolate is aversive to me so now I am being punished by eating the chocolate in which I am allergic to...
